Request for the removal of the Customs Duties on Imports of Palm Oil Dairy Fat

The Department of Finance is currently reviewing a request for the removal of the customs duties on imports of palm oil dairy fat for use in the manufacture of animal feed.  This product is classified as palm oil and its fractions, refined but not chemically modified, under tariff item No. 1511.90.90 of the Customs Tariff, dutiable at 11% under the Most-Favoured-Nation (MFN) Tariff, and with a 10% rate under the General Preferential Tariff (GPT).

The applicant claims that this dairy fat is not available from Canadian production and that tariff relief would enhance its competitiveness in the domestic market.

If you have an interest in this request, or are aware of others who could potentially be affected by such action, I would appreciate receiving your views by September 28, 2012.
